Bob Telfer taught physical education and outdoor education
in Stirlingshire during the 1970's and 1980's, during which time he was
involved in the development of curricular outdoor education both in his
school and with his Local Authority. In 1989 he moved to Speyside to develop
and run Craigower Lodge Outdoor Centre, working primarily with groups
of young people. During this time he was involved in the development of
adventure activity provision in the commercial sector in Scotland, including
a period as secretary of the former Scottish Activity Holiday Association.
In 1996 he was recruited to the Inspectorate team at the inception of
the licensing scheme. He has retained an active interest in the field
of outdoor education through involvement with a local high school in their
outdoor education and DofE expedition programmes. He continues to actively
participate in outdoor activities, currently pursuing adventures in open
canoeing, climbing, skiing, and sea kayaking.
